I Dare to Write

What the heck am I doing writing a blog about writing? I suspect this could be writer’s block in disguise.

Really, I can’t imagine that I have something to say that dozens, nay, thousands, of other writers haven’t said ad nauseum. I really have no vital insights into how to query or how to plot or how to even come up with ideas in the first place.

What I do have are personal experiences in becoming/being a writer. You probably do, too. Hey, let’s share. Maybe one of us will learn from it, become famous (if not rich) and drag our friends along with us.

About me: There’s enough in the bio to get you started. I am stealing time to write here from my time allocated to either continuing to query or working on the next novel, so I’ll be keeping the content short and something maybe less than weekly for a while. At least until I get into the swing of this.

Here’s what I have come to suspect: when I think I’ve written something pretty darn good, it probably needs lots and lots (and LOTS) of editing. This, of course, from the perspective of weeks later, after much grousing and head-bashing. There’s probably nothing worse than being too close to your writing. If you can think of anything worse, let me know; I’ll stick it on my “It could be worse…” bulletin board. Anyway, I highly recommend you find dedicated First Readers who will be honest in telling you what you need. Listen to them. EDIT your book. Once you’ve responded to your critiques, submit your edited work to BETA Readers. Hopefully, they’ll catch issues your First Readers might have been too kind to point out. Edit. Edit. Edit Again. Hopefully your publisher’s editor will have even more for you to edit for your eventual audience.
